Notes:
For
many of the maps dated 1962-73, 92 & 93, it is difficult to tell which
cover is the front and which is the back. If only one side contains the date,
that side is described. Otherwise, one side is chosen arbitrarily.
From
1912 to at least 1930, the Michigan State Highway Department published
"State Reward Roads" maps. These maps appear to have been appendices
to the Annual Reports of the Department of Transportation. In 1918 the title
became “State Reward and Federal Aid Roads, Trunk Lines and Bridges” and was
lithographed by Denoyer-Geppert. These maps are listed in a separate category
at the end of the list.
Starting
in 1919, the
Maps
issued from 1924 through 1926 were titled "Official Michigan Condition
Map" and combined into a single map. These maps were corrected periodically
and had a price of 25 cents per copy.
In
1927, the "Official Michigan Service Map" was introduced, which was
issued until 1934. The price per copy was 15 cents until mid-1928 when it was
10 cents per copy and in August of 1928 they became free. The maps in 1929-30
were produced by the H.M. Gousha Co. and Rand McNally produced the maps in 1931
and later. The first maps issued for the motoring public came in 1934. This
information was supplied by the Michigan Dept. of Transportation.
The
two versions of the 1978-79 map also have one other
difference, in addition to what is noted below. The first version includes two
fake "towns" in

is not known whether there is any way to distinguish the reprinted editions of
1944 and 1994, which are reported by the Michigan DOT.
