Notes:

Between 1925 and 1979-80, the map was distributed by the State Highway Commission (Department of Transportation beginning 1973). In 1923 and from 1982 to the present, the Maine Publicity Bureau distributed the official map. The Maine Development Commission also published a map in 1931.

 

During the late 1920s and early 1930s, a booklet titled "Motoring in Maine" was issued which also included a copy of the State Highway Commission map. These maps were glued into the back cover in the late 1920s, and folded into an envelope in the back of the book for 1930. These maps are the same as listed below, but may have different folded dimensions.

 

The 1955 map is in the format of a 16 page booklet, with sections of the state highway map on different pages. The dimensions of the booklet are 9.5 x 9.5, which folds in half to the dimensions listed below.

 

Maps from 1937 to 1942 and 1966 to 1975 have two covers; only one is described here.

 

From 1982-1984 no official map issued but private map created by DeLorme widely sold in state and given away by Maine Publicity Bureau to written requests. 1982 edition undated. 1983 and 1984 similar to 1982 but date in copyright notice. The DeLorme map continues to be given away or sold by the Publicity Bureau for 95 cents even though the store price is $2.50. No price is marked on the Publicity Bureau copies. Same map as issued in 1982 with minor updates.
