Notes:
Both
the Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the Division of Tourism publish
maps of
Caltrans
maps from the 1930s through 1959 have one cover consisting of black and white
text, and another cover with the same text, but a black and white photo of the
state capitol building as well. Based on folding patterns, the text-only cover
would probably be considered the front, but for the purposes of this list, the
cover with the photo is described. An exception to this is the 1940 map, which
contains photos on both covers - the usual photo of the capitol and one of the governor.
The
California Highway Patrol (CHP) also issued maps from the 1950s to the 1980s
(maybe longer). These are not listed here, but may be added in future updates
if data can be found.
