Subsidiaries (Continued from Fall, 1999 Newsletter) For 1942, SOCal stayed with the program of a single map for each state for both owned stations and independent dealers, but with a new cover design. I have not been able to confirm it, but I believe not all jurisdictions had a map published for them in this year, due to the war. The 1942 map was solid red with a blue diagonal stripe across it containing the words "Standard Oil Road Map." There were variations, however. I have a Portland map and a Los Angeles printed in dark blue on plain paper, on one side only; I also have a regular-issue Los Angeles version. No maps were published by SOCal and its subsidiaries in 1943 and 1944. ...
